The origin of Hosenji Onsen dates back to the first year of Tenkei era (938), where it is said that a staff pierced into a tree by the monk Kuya became a large cedar tree, and hot springs started to gush out from its base. The medicinal hot spring, rich in healing properties, continues to flow incessantly even after a thousand years.
